To the Ferris Wheel, the Big Mac and modern organized labor add the emoticon to things invented in Pittsburgh. It's been 25 years since Scott Fahlman, a rather distinguished professor of at Carnegie Mellon decide that jokes should be designated by the now famous colon dash close parens combo.
